There are various rumors about the name of Kanlıca, which is one of the important districts of Istanbul. According to one of them, it is known that this district was called "Kağnıca", since there were villagers producing "kağnı" ("ox cart") and in the 17th century and later years, it was called "Kanlıcak". According to another rumor, a sultan ordered to find out which district of Istanbul was cleaner. According to the old Central Asian tradition, wherever the meat hung on the poles are corrupted at the latest the air of that locality was considered to be clean. Therefore the Sultan's order was implemented based on this tradition, and since the meat was corrupted most lately in Kanlıca, it was thought it had the cleanest air. Therefore, it is among the rumors that the district was called "Kanlıca".
You can reach Kanlıca by taking the buses departing from Üsküdar or getting on aboard the City Line ferries and getting off at Kanlıca Quay. When you get off at Kanlıca Quay, there will be a square with plane trees that greet you first.

The mosque, built in 1559 and with a transverse rectangular plan, was built in a brick timber masonry system. There are two-storied windows on the facades of the mosque, designed in accordance with the order in the classical Ottoman style. Just outside the mosque is the Gazi İskender Pasha Tomb built in 1571, which is closed to visitors.
There are also places in the square where you can try the "Kanlıca Yoghurt", which is identified with the Kanlıca district. The most important features of Kanlıca yoghurt are that there are no additives in it, feeding animals in natural environment and using buffalo milk. It is known that Kanlıca yoghurt was cut and served with a knife during the Ottoman period. Another feature of Kanlıca yoghurt is that it is consumed together with powdered sugar.
