PRESS RELEASE ON SMOKING BAN
IN CERTAIN OUTDOOR AREAS
AS PART OF COMBAT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS (2020-98)
Smoking has been banned in 125 avenues, 93 streets, 84 squares as well as public transportation vehicle stops in order to properly apply the use of masks in Istanbul.
In order to prevent the spread of the virus within the scope of combating the coronavirus pandemic in Istanbul and in line with the decision no. 102 of our Provincial Public Hygiene Assembly; (Within the framework of the Ministry of Interior's circular dated 11.11.2020 and numbered 18579; In order to ensure the correct and continuous use of masks, as of 12.11.2020, it is decided to prohibit smoking in places/areas such as streets and avenues (especially those closed to traffic), squares and public transportation vehicle stops where our citizens spend time at, as to be determined by the Decisions of the District Public Hygiene Board within all of our province), smoking has been banned in 125 avenues, 93 streets and 84 squares in total with the separate decisions of the District Public Hygiene Boards of our 39 districts.
The full list of streets, avenues and squares where smoking ban was imposed throughout Istanbul has been published on the website of our Governorship.
Those who do not comply with the ban will be fined TRY 900.
All measures taken are to protect the health of our citizens, province and society.
