Today, we are in an architectural breakthrough to realize this dream of mine."

With this project, we have explained the question of how the school-environment relationship can improve."

"We Should Leave a Mark to the Next Generations with the Living Schools Project"
Governor Yerlikaya started his speech by thanking the institutions that supported the "Living Schools" project, especially the Ministry. Governor Yerlikaya stated as follows: "Schools are places where our children have to live for a very long time until the age of 19-20, after they go there at the age of 4-5 and where the future is built. Our Minister has a saying that never goes out of my mind. "Not to help them to write a resume, but to prepare them for the future…" and emphasized the importance of the architectural design of school.
Governor Yerlikaya continued his speech as follows: "We currently have enormous historical artifacts about our schools in Istanbul, the essence of our civilization as Gazi Mustafa Kemal put it, that we will transfer to our next generation. This school we are in is one of them.
Now, with the 2023 Education Vision and the Living Schools Project, we need to leave living schools and buildings to the next generations, just like the schools left to us and lived until now.
We came together today to realize this dream with the valuable work of our Minister. In seven regions, no matter what province. We should design such schools whether in a metropolis, in the districts or in the towns, so that we can see the works of our living architecture and artworks of out architects there at the highest level."
Referring to the efforts to strengthen the schools in Istanbul, Governor Yerlikaya continued his speech as follows: "We thankfully provided the earthquake resistance of 92% of our schools built before 1999. Either we demolished it and rebuilt it and this rate corresponds to about 40%. We had 1156 schools in Istanbul that were destroyed or strengthened.
Upon the instructions of our President, and with the follow-up and coordination of our esteemed Minister Mr. Ziya, we will complete them all in our Istanbul if God allows us before 2023. We will complete them, but you know we also need new schools.
We have 77 unproblematic lands in Istanbul. I would like to call out to our citizens of Istanbul and philanthropists from here. We want to bring these lands together with our valuable philanthropists as soon as possible. But, unlike the previous ones. We want the best first 77 applications of the Living Schools Project to be on these lands."
Governor Yerlikaya completed his speech as follows: "Dear Minister fortunately have implemented the Living Schools Project in Istanbul the essence of our civilization for our future generations. From its architectural design to its practitioner, from its contractor to its engineer, from its workers to its administrators and to our teachers, I would like to say "God bless" to all of you and I hope these works that will raise our young people in the light of the 2023 Education Vision will be beneficial."
After the speeches, the project introduction meeting was completed with the presentation of a plaque to the project architects by Minister Selçuk.
Minister Selçuk and Governor Yerlikaya visited the stands with their accompanying delegation and examined 23 architectural projects prepared by 15 architectural offices.
The Future of Education is being Designed within the Living Schools Project
The Living Schools Project designs the future of education with projects that will set an example for educational structures at all levels of education and in every different location.
The Living Schools Project, which is implemented within the scope of the 2023 Education Vision, is designed to redesign the architectural structures of educational institutions by evaluating the needs of students and the characteristics of the region where the schools are located.
Within the scope of the project, 23 projects designed by 15 architectural offices constitute a sample prepared by considering the different needs of our country, from village schools to schools with a dense urban population. With the Living Schools Project, which aims to reach 15,000 students with an average of 450 classrooms with a project area of approximately 150,000 square meters, kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, special education business schools will be reconstructed or renewed by taking into account the geographical characteristics of the region where these schools are located. In all projects prepared, it is deemed important to strengthen the social interactions of schools not only with their students but also with their environment.
