Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya made a press statement on early start of working hours in the industry sector and flexible working hours in the public institutions, which was discussed and resolved in the Provincial Public Hygiene Assembly.
Making a press statement at the Governorship of Istanbul, Governor Yerlikaya started his speech as follows, "We are currently fighting a great struggle in Istanbul against the coronavirus pandemic that threatens all humanity. Under the leadership of our Ministry of Health, we have taken and continue to take new measures in line with the recommendations of our Science Board. In order to effectively implement the measures we have taken, we are in cooperation and solidarity with our municipalities and all institutions and organizations, universities, professional associations, unions, non-governmental organizations and press, under the coordination of our Governorship."
Expressing that the fight against the pandemic is individual as well as social, Governor Yerlikaya continued as follows: "The most important aspect of this solidarity is each of our citizens. Meaning; you. In order for us to overcome the pandemic that has been escalating in Istanbul recently depends on all of us following the rules without compromise. We have a very strong health system, and excellent health professionals. We are proud of this.
In the treatment dimension, great strides have been made and we are really good in this regard. We apply the most effective treatment methods for both our citizens who are hospitalized and who are still being treated at home and in isolation. Words are not enough to describe the efforts and endeavors of our healthcare professionals. We and our nation will always commemorate those who fulfilled this unique mission with appreciation! They are our heroes..."
Governor Yerlikaya: "Our filiation teams are carrying out an admirable work as well. In Istanbul, currently 1,405 filiation teams are working day and night, setting an example to the world. They are also our heroes..."
Referring to the statement made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan yesterday, Governor Yerlikaya stated as follows: "Our President yesterday announced some new measures to be implemented throughout the country. Our Ministry of Interior issued a circular on the issue. Now, the working hours of some of our workplaces will end at 22.00.".
"We Don't Want to Lose Anymore People due to this Pandemic"
Stating that the inspections will be increased, Governor Yerlikaya continued his speech as follows: "We take into consideration the requests and suggestions from you and increase the inspections in every field. Since August 22, we have conducted 2 million 289 thousand inspections. However, we have trouble following the measures individually.
We have to come to our senses now. Without the need for someone to inspect us, our workplace, we must recognize the danger ourselves and follow the precautions strictly. Every Istanbulite is one of our own. We don't want to lose anymore people due to this pandemic. We don't want to go back to the restricted days."
"We Should Not Let Go of Control"
Stating that they should not let go of control, Governor Yerlikaya stated as follows: "The pandemic is not over yet. We shouldn't let go of control. In this process, wearing masks is as necessary as water; social distance is as essential as bread. Hygiene is our biggest weapon against the virus! For all of this to be effective, please, let's avoid crowded environments as much as possible. This is the constant rule of helping ourselves, our society."
Reminding that all public institutions and organizations in Istanbul have started "gradual working practice" as of September 28, 2020, Governor Yerlikaya stated as follows: "As of today, we are expanding the scope of alternating and remote working methods in all public institutions and organizations in a way that will not disrupt public services and reduce the effects of the pandemic.
1- Employees aged 60 and over (except those in administrative positions),
2- Pregnant women,
3- Those with chronic diseases,
4- Female personnel with children aged 10 and younger
will work from home, deemed on administrative leave.
Our other personnel members will work alternately on a weekly basis."
Reminding that Istanbul is the 14th largest metropolis of the world, Governor Yerlikaya continued as follows: "We have 5 million 300 thousand employees in all sectors. 93.3 percent of this is working in the private sector. Gradual and flexible working practice in the private sector is indispensable for Istanbul in the fight against the pandemic.
As you know, we have approximately 1 million 200 thousand employees in the industrial sector. We held meetings with all our stakeholders in this sector. We recently discussed this issue at the Provincial Pandemic Board this Monday.
We have consulted and discussed with our employee and employer unions Türk-İş, Hak-İş, Disk, Tisk; our trade associations Istanbul Chamber of Industry, Chamber of Commerce, Commodity Exchange, TIM, Chamber of Shipping, Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen; our Business World NGOs TÜSİAD, MÜSİAD, ASKON, TÜMSİAD and the administrations of all Organized Industrial Zones.
The recommendations of our Provincial Pandemic Board were discussed and resolved in our Provincial Public Hygiene Assembly today. It was decided that 'for all of us, for our health', those working in the industrial sector will start working at 07:00 in the morning. This decision will be implemented as from Monday, November 9."
Governor Yerlikaya completed his speech as follows: "I would like to thank everyone who worked hard and contributed to this beneficial decision that will strengthen our fight against the pandemic. If God allows us, we will defeat the virus by following the precautions. We will overcome the pandemic together, we will achieve this together. I wish God's mercy upon all our citizens who lost their lives, urgent healing to all our patients who are currently receiving treatment and healthy days for all of you."
