Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya delivered a speech to the guests.
"The Victory of August 30 is a Historical Landmark"
Governor Yerlikaya stated as follows in his speech that he started by celebrating the Victory Day of the guests:
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk described the high character traits of our nation with his following words: "We Turks are a nation that has been a symbol of freedom and independence throughout our history. We are brave, we are smart, we are hardworking. We know how to die for high purposes."
However, our nation and our country which is the homeland of independence, was the site of a great invasion plan after the first world war.
These lands, where the great powers had their eyes on, had witnessed a unique liberation struggle, which our beloved nation put forth with their blood and life, despite all the impossibilities.
The victory of August 30 is a historical turning point achieved through the liberation struggle, which guides all the oppressed in the world."
Governor Yerlikaya continued: "What makes our victories unforgettable is not just August 30. Sultan Alparslan, exactly 950 years ago, with great determination and faith, opened the doors of Anatolia to the Turkish nation on August 26, 1071.
And again on another August 26, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk closed the gates of Anatolia against those who set their eyes on our lands, and closed it forever, saying the following words: "God will protect the Turkish nation. Time is up. I hope the victory is ours"
"We commemorate our National Struggle Heroes with Mercy and Gratitude"
Governor Yerlikaya said, "In those fiery days of the National Struggle, great pain was suffered and many tears were shed.
And on the morning of August 26, on that day when history was rewritten, 207 thousand hearts were beating at the same time...
The fate of a great nation was in the hands of the faithful Turkish soldiers" and commemorated the heroes of the national struggle.
Governor Yerlikaya finished his speech as follows: "Today is our holiday. We came together to celebrate this day. We celebrate the joy of victory together, to the fullest extent. And I hope we will experience many joys of victory as long as the world exist.
We have never forgotten, and we will never forget those who gave us this victory and this great happiness.
I commemorate Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who said 'Victory can only be won by great nations', his comrades in arms, our heroic soldiers, our mothers, our great-hearted grandmothers and grandfathers, who died for the sake of the country, with mercy, and gratitude."
The program was completed with a music concert and Zeybek show.
